DIY Relief: How to Make Your Own Cannabis-Infused Pain Cream

Cannabis has been used for centuries to relieve pain and inflammation, and in recent years, research has backed up these traditional uses with scientific evidence. One of the most popular ways to use cannabis for pain relief is through topicals, which are creams, salves, and other products that are applied directly to the skin. These products can provide localized relief for conditions such as arthritis, sore muscles, and chronic pain, without the psychoactive effects associated with other forms of cannabis use.

While you can easily purchase cannabis-infused topicals from dispensaries, it's also possible to make your own at home. Here's a simple recipe for a cannabis-infused pain-relieving cream that you can customize to suit your own needs and preferences.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup of coconut oil

  • 1/4 cup of beeswax

  • 1/4 cup of cannabis flower or trim

  • 20-30 drops of essential oil (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Decarboxylate your cannabis by spreading it out on a baking sheet and baking it in the oven at 245°F (120°C) for about 30 minutes. This step is important because it activates the THC and CBD in the cannabis, making them more effective for pain relief.

  2. In a double boiler, melt the coconut oil and beeswax together over low heat.

  3. Once the coconut oil and beeswax are fully melted, add the decarboxylated cannabis and stir well.

  4. Allow the mixture to simmer over low heat for 30-45 minutes, stirring occasionally. This will allow the cannabis to infuse into the coconut oil.

  5. After the infusion time, remove the mixture from the heat and let it cool for a few minutes.

  6. Add the essential oils if you like, and then pour the mixture into a container or jar.

  7. Allow the cream to cool and solidify completely before using.

This recipe can be easily customized to suit your own needs and preferences. For example, you can add different essential oils for a different scent, or use different types of oil, like olive or avocado oil, or even shea or cocoa butter. You can also adjust the amount of cannabis used to suit your desired strength.

When using your homemade cannabis-infused topical, be sure to start with a small amount and work your way up, as everyone's tolerance will be different. Always be aware of your own tolerance and adjust accordingly.

It's also important to remember that while topicals can provide localized relief, they will not have the same effects as consuming cannabis orally. Topicals are not absorbed into the bloodstream, so they will not produce any psychoactive effects.

They are only intended to provide relief to the applied area.

Creating your own cannabis-infused topicals can be a fun and rewarding way to explore the therapeutic benefits of cannabis. With a little creativity and some basic ingredients, you can create a product that is tailored to your specific needs and preferences. Next time you're experiencing pain or discomfort, why not give it a try?
